L. Chaussée Wins Four Awards in 1839 Color Photography Contest
PADA member L. Chaussée has earned a remarkable sweep in the 1839 Awards Color Photography Contest, taking home three Gold medals and a Silver across four categories in the Professional division.
Her Gold in Film / Analog went to Nature Study. In her own words: "Nature Study examines a constructed landscape and representation of the natural world, where architecture, commerce, and place converge in an unexpected way. Photographed in medium format with a Rolleiflex 2.8F on Kodak Portra 400." Fellow PADA member Ariel Swartley offered this response: "I was particularly delighted by your Film / Analog winner — which was kind of story telling too, but in a single frame."
The Minimalism Gold went to an image in the series Material Tension. Chaussée writes: "Material Tension explores the stillness and material presence of concrete architecture reduced to surface, mass, and interval. Made with a Rolleiflex 2.8 on Kodak Portra, the series considers monumentality through quiet form and restrained observation."

Her third Gold, in Story Telling, recognized an image in the series Newton Street: "Created over two winters, Newton Street observes seasonal rituals in modest Southern California neighborhoods, where Christmas inhabits a landscape of bright daylight, washed color, and ordinary suburban space. Photographed in medium format with a Rolleiflex 2.8F on Kodak Portra 400."
