Ariel Swartley Juried into The Word Show at The Los Angeles Makery

PADA member Ariel Swartley has been juried into The Word Show at The Los Angeles Makery in Downtown LA. Her three entries include standalone pages reworked from two of her books, Summer Kitchen and A Season in Point Russe, a #photografiknovel, along with a piece built from texts found in thrift shop books and fabric.

Swartley credits a PADA presentation for inspiring her approach. "I would not have thought of redoing the memoir page with incorporated and disappearing text without the PADA presentation by Montse Carty that Judy arranged," she said. "Thank you, Judy!"

Fellow PADA members are cheering her on. "Wow, Ariel. These are amazing: conceptually intriguing and visually stunning," said Judy Herman. Added Tim Truby, "The show looks like a great change of pace."

Preview Night is Thursday, August 6, from 6 to 9 pm, during DTLA Art Night. The Opening Reception follows Sunday, August 9, from 2 to 5 pm, coinciding with a Second Saturday open studios and sound bath, with refreshments provided and guests welcome to bring something to share. The show closes with an Art Pick-Up on Sunday, August 30, from 2 to 5 pm. The Los Angeles Makery is at 260 S. Los Angeles St., Los Angeles.
